The Masterchain
The fixed firmament. Finality is recorded here; all lesser spheres take their reference from its beat.
Nicolai Copernici Thorunensis
“In medio vero omnium residet Sol.”In the middle of all sits the Sun; at the middle of The Open Network, the user.
In the year of our Lord one thousand five hundred forty-three, Nicolaus of Toruń displaced the Earth from the centre of the heavens and set there, in her stead, the Sun. A trifling hypothesis to the unlettered; yet from it flowed every modern science. This present work, published on the domain of its anniversary number, makes a more modest proposal: that the centre of value is likewise not where we believed it to be. Not the bank, not the gate, not the sovereign, but The Open Network, turning freely upon itself, and the person who holds its key.
What Copernicus did for the spheres, TON attempts for the ledger: it places the individual at the focus, and lets the institutions orbit.
The fixed firmament. Finality is recorded here; all lesser spheres take their reference from its beat.
Concentric rings of execution, each turning on its own axis yet bound to the first by immutable decree.
Names, not numbers. A domain such as 1543.ton is a star plotted on the open celestial chart, and it is yours to keep.
The medium of exchange between spheres. Weightless, divisible, and of bearer alone.
Mechanisms wound in advance; they turn of themselves, without a clockmaker present, and cannot be bribed.
A vernacular harbour by which ordinary travellers board The Open Network without Latin nor ceremony.
“Mobilium autem ordo talis est, a supremo incipiendo.”
The order of the moving bodies is as follows, beginning from the highest.
De Revolutionibus, Lib. I, Cap. X
